  • 1816 – Lord Byron completes Parisina and The Siege of Corinth.
  • 1859 – Brahms’ first piano concerto (in D minor) premieres in Hanover.
  • 1881 – Ancient Egyptian obelisk known as Cleopatra’s Needle was erected in Central Park, it was commissioned by Pharoh Thutmosis III in 1500BC. It took 4 months for workers to move it from the Hudson river to Central Park.

  • 1561 – Francis Bacon – was born in London, England. He became Lord Chancellor and published his ideas in the essay Novum Organum, relating to the correct method of attaining knowledge.
  • 1788 – Lord Byron – born as George Gordon Noel in London, England. He became a romantic poet penning Don Juan and many others, he was also famed for his scandalous affairs.
  • 1960 – Michael Hutchence – was born in Australia; he became the lead vocalist with INXS.
