  • 1918 – Norman Wisdom was born in London, England. He became a comedian and actor he was best known for the character Norman Pitkin and the series of films. Initially the films created more revenue than the James Bond films.
  • 1941 – John Steel was born in Gateshead, UK. He became a rock drummer with the Animals who had a hit with the House of the Rising Sun.
  • 1948 – Alice Cooper was born as Vincent Damon Furnier, in Detroit. He became a rock star and had hits such as School’s Out.

  • 1920 - Walt Disney starts his first job as an artist, his weekly wage was $40. He worked for the Kansas City Slide Company.
  • 1944 - 285 German bombers attack London it was known as the little blitz.

  • 1945 – Tom Selleck was born in Detroit, Michigan. He became an actor and was Lance in the Rockford Files and also starred in Magnum PI.
  • 1954 – Oprah Winfrey was born in Kosciusko, Michigan, she became an actress but is best known for her TV show, Oprah.

  • 1981 – British police arrest Peter Sutcliffe, a truck driver later convicted of murders of 13 women, the newspapers and tabloid press nicknamed him the ‘Yorkshire Ripper’.
